Hattie Tanner Obituary

Hattie Bell Jackson Tanner was born to the union of Bud and Hattie Jackson on April 10, 1931 in Gadsden, AL. She was the youngest of six children.

Hattie Bell, as she was affectionately called by family, attended Gadsden City Schools from Central Elementary to Carver High School, where she graduated in 1949.  She attended Alabama A&M for a year and decided to come back home.  She began working at the Etowah County Court House and also worked with children at a Day Care, where she worked in the office and also substituted in the Attalla School System.

At an early age, Hattie confessed her life to Christ and was baptized at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. W.M. Mallory.  This was the family’s house of worship. The Missionary Society had a circle named the Hattie Jackson Circle, named after her Mother. They were all very active in the church. Years later, she moved her membership to Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Charles Posey.

She enjoyed shopping and eating out.  She had an infectious laugh and didn't mind telling you if she didn't like something.

On Monday afternoon, June 30, 2025, she was called to rest by our Heavenly Father.

Hattie B. Tanner was preceded in death by her son, Don Mitchell Jackson; parents, Bud and Hattie Jackson; three sisters, Louise Jackson Baker, Portia Jackson Hogue, and Eulata Jackson Bennett; and two bothers, Buddie C. Jackson and George W. Jackson.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories and legacy, a loving and devoted son, Rodney L. (Tameka) Tanner; grandsons, Jett E. Tanner and Parris D. Tanner; granddaughter, Tyra T. Hollis; great-grandson, Jamir; special nieces and nephews; the Jacksons and the Baker boys;; a devoted, special, and dear friend, Mildred Adams; a special and loving niece, Sandra Jackson; nephew, David (Eva) Jackson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives, and friends.
