Mr. James W. Ragland was born March 20, 1939 in Talladega, AL, son of the late El and Bessie Askew Ragland.
James was most often called J.W. by his family and friends. He served in the United States Army for over 25 years before retiring with honors. J.W. was well known in not only his community but also the surrounding communities.
James accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and his faith never waivered. In his sick days, he recited scripture and thanked God for the opportunity to praise Him.
James married the love of his life Ora Ann in 1963, and to this union they had two daughters and a son.
He was preceded in death by his parents, El and Bessie Askew Ragland; wife, Ora Annie Ragland; sister, Mrs. Juanita Bright; and grandson, Jackie Ragland.
Memories of J.W. will forever be cherished by his family: children, Victor Hamby, Pell City, AL, Staretta Jordan, Pell City, AL, Audra Wolford, Huntsville, AL, and James J. Ragland, Pell City, AL; grandchildren, Latoya Ragland, Gregory Ragland, Willie Bedford, Victor Bedford, all of Pell City, AL; nephews, Johnny R. Kidd, and Bernard Swain, both of Pell City, AL; special sons, Frederick Fomby and Allen Flanning; eleven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
