Rev Roszell Gadson, Sr. Obituary

Rev. Roszell Gadson, Sr. 83, passed away after a long illness Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Princeton Baptist Medical Center in Birmingham, AL.

Rev. Gadson graduated from Carver High School, Class of 1955. He is a graduate of Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and science. He received a Master of Arts degree in mathematics from The University of Alabama and received his certification in educational administration from The University of Alabama at Birmingham.

During his professional time as an educator, he taught math and science at Carver High School, math at Emma Sansom High School, and math part-time at Gadsden State Community College. He spent most of his career as a school principal in the Gadsden City School System and moved to the Gadsden City Board of Education as Supervisor of At-Risk Students before retirement.

Rev. Gadson is a former pastor of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, acting pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church and New Hope Baptist Church. He also was an instructor at the Birmingham Baptist Bible College Extension Center in Gadsden, AL.

Rev. Gadson was a veteran of the United States Army and completed Jump School in 1958 with the elite 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, N.C. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and many civic and professional organizations.

Rev. Gadson was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Priscilla Harris Gadson, sisters, Emily Gadson Howard and Alberta Gadson; and brothers, Ernest Gadson, Jr., Jesse R. Gadson, and Johnny B. Gadson. 

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 58 years, Delores Pruitt Gadson; daughter, Pangela Gadson McGee, Gadsden, AL, son, Roszell L. Gadson, Jr., Lilburn, GA, granddaughter, Deangela McGee, Mobile, AL; one sister, Josephine Gadson Harrold, Gadsden, AL; two brothers, Wallace Gadson(Zell) and George W. Gadson, both of Gadsden, AL; one sister-in-law, Elouise Glover, Gadsden, AL; one brother-in-law, Leslie Pruitt, Jr.(Kecha), Gadsden, AL; nieces, Saundra B. Gadson, Chillicothe, OH, Jonnetta D. Gadson, Esq., Chillicothe, OH, Patrice Gadson Kelly(Ricky), Griffin, GA; nephews, Albert M. Harrold, Jr., Gadsden, AL, Cedric J. Gadson(Sidney), Jonesboro, GA, Alton M. Harrold, Nashville, TN; special neighbor and friend, Mr. and Mrs. Chatmon Sturdivant and a host of  cousins, other relatives and friends.
