Roosevelt Smith Beard was the youngest of six children. He was born November 1,1942 to the late Frank Beard and Willie Lee Sommerville.
He was educated in the public schools of Pickers County. He graduated from R.J. Kirksey High School in 1960. Roosevelt accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age and he enjoyed to fellowship with fellow Christians.
Roosevelt joined the Navy in 1961. He retired and was discharged in 1981. After retirement, he worked for Veteran Affairs and as a correctional officer. He was also an avid fisherman.
He leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving wife, Jean Ethel Ford Beard; four sons, Victor (Felicia) of Memphis, TN, Julius of Birmingham, AL, Christopher of Martinez, CA and Patrick of Arlington, GA; one daughter, Rhonda of Atlanta, GA; step-children, Kevin (Tony), Broderick (Valerie), Vincent, Fred (Sonya), Taronza, and Jane’t, all of Tallahassee, and Eboni (Aaron) of Pensacola; care givers, Ricia, BJ, and Octavia Ball; a very special friend, Christopher Smith; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
