Roosevelt Smith, 79, formerly of Gadsden, was born the third child of George and Ida Lue Smith on July 27, 1939.
Roosevelt was a faithful member and Deacon of Athens CME Church and a 1959 graduate of Carver High School. He furthered his education at Tennessee State University where he was a proud member of the Tiger Track Team which included Wilma Rudolph and his roommate Olympic gold medalist Ralph Boston.
He united in marriage to Linda Huff in 1968. Roosevelt's professional career began at O.B. Burton Elementary School in Gadsden. He later moved to Atlanta, Ga. where he continued his career with the Atlanta Public School System until his retirement in 1996.
Preceding him in death were his parents and sister, Bertha Smith Hall.
He is survived by his wife Linda; daughter, Dr. Tracey Smith Randerson (Craig); granddaughter, India J. Muqaddeem; sister, Georgia Mack (Ulysses); brother, John R. Smith (Delma); brother-in-law, James L. Hall; Aunt, Susie DeJarnette; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
