Pastor Sammie Lee Rutledge was born on July 11, 1951 in Etowah County to Mr. Nimrold and Lula Rutledge. He graduated from Carver High School in Gadsden, AL in 1970. He was employed by Gadsden Regional Hospital, where he was awarded Employee of the Year on several occassions, until his retirement. Sam had many hobbies such as car building and carpentry. He was also Senior Pastor of Abundant Life Christian Center.
Pastor Sam was a spiritual shepherd and community leader, always willing and able to help anyone in need. He was a friend to the lost and inspired so many that crossed his path. His outgoing personality and love for people was like none other.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nimrold and Lula Rutledge; sisters, Martha Simmons and Joyce Rutledge Mitchell; brothers, Donnell Rutledge, James Rutledge, Joe Simmons, Randy Rutledge, and Howard Rutledge.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Angela Rutledge; sons, Jaylen Jones, Chris Jones, and John Jones, all of Gadsden, AL; daughters, Sabrina (Pastor Chris) Powell and Tabitha (Jamal) Pugh, of Birmingham, AL, and Nicole Jones of Gadsden, AL; twelve grandchildren; brother, Timothy Rutledge of Gadsden, AL; sisters, Mary Summerville and Juanita (Wandell) Tennyson, both of Dallas, TX, Bernice Williams and Elizabeth Winborn of Gadsden, AL; father and mother-in-law, Danny and Dorise Jones of Gadsden, AL; sister-in-law, Linda Rutledge of Huntsville, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
